FORGING THE SUN AND WEAVING THE MOON

Forging the Sun and Weaving the Moon is a photographic series shaped by two forces that guide the way I look. The energy of the sun — active, warm, direct — leads the moments when I bring clarity to what I see: when I shape an image by deciding my position, adjusting my perspective, and bringing certain elements into clear focus. Because I work only with natural light, these sun-driven moments often arise through shifting atmospheres rather than through controlled setups. The energy of the moon — intuitive, quiet, receptive — reflects the part of my practice that slows down, listens, and allows form to surface on its own.

In some Chinese creation stories, the sun and the moon were once a single being before they separated to keep the world in balance. This sense of unity held within duality — Yang and Yin — moves through my work, unbound by the literal rhythms of day or night.
In Yunnan this duality became concrete. Some images are built through structure and choice; others only appeared when I stepped back and let them surface. The work shifts between control and surrender, between warmth and stillness.
The series explores the space where sun and moon meet — suggesting that creation may arise from two halves that once belonged to the same whole.
